On Marketing

Hi! My name is Carl Strathmeyer. I am the principal of a small marketing consultancy, Synapse Connections LLC. I have a technical background in software and systems, but found that my products’ capabilities and value were not being effectively communicated to prospective customers. It turned out that I was able to do this better than my colleagues because of my unique combination of technical experience and ability to communicate clearly.

I find I can contribute the most value when I work at the boundary between technology and marketing, translating the language of each discipline for the other constituency. You can find out more about my background and experience at the Synapse Connections web site.

Many of the products and services I have been involved with were the first of their kind, which raises some interesting marketing challenges. Because there are no similar products in the marketplace to compare to yours, customers have no criteria for shopping in the new category you are trying to establish. This often results in a reluctance to buy at all.

I established Synapse Connections LLC to help my clients to overcome these challenges and successfully introduce products and services in new categories. I use ‘On Marketing’ to discuss topics that come up in my practice and share my perspective on them.
